Fitness & Exercise survey for CCVS (Cornwall Collegiate Vocational School)

CCVS Logo

This project is about fitness and exercising of other students in CCVS. By creating a poster, a survey, and analysing data, we can conclude the level of fitness in our school. The main goal is to help students think about their health regarding their fitness, and what to do to make it better.

For the last 2 years, a lot of us students have stayed home for online learning due to the global pandemic. This meant we weren't moving as much, and our physical health hasn't really kept to standards. This is why I chose this topic, because our physical health is really important for our general health, and can give great benefits to our bodies.

To start off this project, I had to create a survey. I decided to make 13 questions to get good information, but also use multiple choice questions to make it easy and fast for students to answer. I used Microsoft Forms to create it. here it is:

After having created a survey, I had to create a poster to advertise my survey. Using Microsoft PowerPoint, I was able to create a appealing poster to post around the school. Here is an image of my poster:

In the process of making the poster, I also realised that Microsoft Forms have the ability to use a QR code scan to link to the survey. Using that idea, I implemented my QR code survey to my poster for students to easily find and respond to my survey with their smartphones.

The next step in this project was to send an email to all of the students in the school. Using Outlook, great email etiquette, and BCC email copies, I was successfully able to send an email to all the students to please participate and respond to my survey. In addition to that, I also printed out my poster in paper and posted it around the school for students to answer.

After having sent the email. I had to wait for results. I waited approximately 3.5 days before I would close down the survey and collect the posters back. The next plan was to analyse and collect the data. Using Microsoft excel, I was able to retrieve and organize the data I received through Microsoft Forms. I created a graph for each question answered, and calculated the averages for each question answered by the students. I also had the chance to use conditional formatting, to visually represent my data.

Exercise & Fitness Survey

After having retrieved and analyzed my data, it was time to create a visual presentation for my class. I decided to use Microsoft PowerPoint, as it was easy to use and was directly related to Microsoft Forms and Excel. The presentation was summarizing the data I found through the survey, and important notes to know about fitness in our school. You can find a few images of my presentation here, and the full document when clicking the PowerPoint Icon:

From this presentation, I concluded that our school is surprisingly unhealthy. The reason why I came to this conclusion is because of these facts:

• Our school is not really fit, with 53% (26 out of 49) of students saying they do not consider themselves fit. It is also important to know that most students that answered this essay were grade 11, so this  info could be biased.

• More than half of the students take the bus, and “walking” was mentioned 19 times for a physical activity to recommend.

• Different factors can effect if we want to go for an active event, like mental health and our emotions.

• 94% of students (47/50) believes that fitness & exercise is important and critical to our health.

• Students have a variety of time to spend on exercise/fitness.

CONCLUSION

As mentioned in the presentation, my general conclusion was the the school is currently unhealthy. The survey was a success, but it would've been better if there was a bigger result rate with the answers. With an email sent to almost 800 students, only about 50 of them answered my survey. If we would've had more students the answer, our conclusion would've been more accurate. Despite that, I do believe this project was a success to our research.
